A three step process for looking after your skin
CLEANSE & POLISH
I’ll start by talking about the first and most important step in the regime, the cleansing stage, which is like nothing I’ve tried before. You simply pump out as much product as you like (so nothing goes to waste) then apply it all over your face and neck. The great thing about this is you can use it on a clean, dry face or a face full of makeup.
Then, when you’ve done that, you get your muslin cloth (two are provided in this set so that you have a spare) and run it under warm/hot water. Use the cloth to wipe the cleanser from your face. At first, I thought it was a bit of faffing about, but then, after a while, I loved how I didn’t have to mess with cupping water in my hands and trying to splash it over my face without covering myself and everything in sight with water.
Also, the great thing about the muslin cloth is that it also works as an exfoliator for the skin, leaving your skin feeling even more refreshed and revitalised. It is recommended to use the product morning and night, but because I don’t always have the time and am trying to make it last as long as possible, I’ve just been using it every other morning, which has been working great so far.
GENTLE FACE EXFOLIATOR
The Gentle Face Exfoliator is an optional step, but it’s one of my favourites. The exfoliator contains jojoba beads, which help to rid your skin’s surface of dry skin cells and give your skin a smoother appearance when applied to your face. It is recommended to use the Gentle Face Exfoliator after the Cleanse and Polish, but for me, I find it best to use at night when I’m in the shower.
I find that if I use it over the sink, I’m always left with jojoba beads on my face, and I find the shower helps to thoroughly wash them off. If you do decide to use this separately from the other products, I would make sure that you use it on a makeup-free face, as I find that gives you the best results. I tried it on a face full of makeup and then the next night tried it with no makeup, and the difference in results was just amazing.
INSTANT BOOST SKIN TONIC
The second step in the process is the Instant Boost Skin Tonic, which is basically a skin toner. This is a step that I use every day. I apply a few large drops of the toner on a cotton wool pad and wipe it over my face, and although I wash my face with body wash in the shower and use the Cleanse and Polish every other day, I still find that this gets the dirt off my face and neck that I didn’t know I had.
After trying quite a few toners over the years, I have to say that this is one of my favourites. I like the fact that it smells nice and doesn’t make your skin feel oily after using it.
A lot of people probably know this, but my mum always taught me that when using a toner, you should always go upwards with the cotton wool pad around your neck and not down, as that helps to prevent wrinkles.
SKIN REPAIR MOISTURISER
The last step in the routine is the Skin Repair Moisturiser. I find that the moisturiser is quite concentrated, so you only need the tiniest amount for your face, especially if your skin type is normal to combination. This is great, as I feel like the moisturiser could easily last me a good six months to a year depending on how much I use it.
The only downside that I’ve found so far is that if you use a bit too much, it can make your skin feel a tad too oily and can take a while to absorb into your skin, so if you don’t have much time in the morning, it’s probably not the best moisturiser to use.
It is currently super warm/hot where I live, and my skin is not that dry at the moment. So this might be something to save for the winter months when it gets cold and my skin gets really dry.
I will be honest and say that the Cleanse and Polish was great and like nothing I’d ever tried before, and if my local shop stocked it, I would definitely buy it again. But on the other hand, as great as the other products were, I wouldn’t rush to go out of my way to buy them again, as I feel like you can get just as good of a range for a lot less.
If you’ve tried the Liz Earle range, let me known what your favourite product is?
